Our visit to The Shakespeare Hospice

Our visit to The Shakespeare Hospice

9th June 2025

Last week, we had the pleasure of being invited to visit The Shakespeare Hospice, whilst we were there, we had a tour of their facilities which felt like a very tranquil place & also spoke about how we could help with them being BTTJ’s charity of the year.

We discovered that the hospice needs to raise £3 million every year in order to continue providing end of life & palliative care to those that need it most.

We found out a lot about the hospice & the services they offer which include:

  • Day Services – The Hospice is a friendly, caring environment which provides support for those affected by life-limiting illness to access a wide range of services & therapies
  • Hospice at Home – Their Hospice at Home service is for patients with life-limiting illnesses who have chosen to receive palliative & end of life care from the comfort of their own homes
  • Therapy Services – Therapy services include Complementary Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. Each Therapy promotes holistic wellbeing & quality of life through their interventions
  • Companion at Home – Their Companion At Home service provides patients with someone to chat with, a listening ear, & the opportunity to form a friendship
  • Adult Counselling – The Adult Counselling service is available to patients & their carers or loved ones who are affected by a life-limiting condition & individuals who have been bereaved
  • Children & Family Support Service – A free service available to children & young people who have had a sudden or expected bereavement or are facing the loss of someone close to them who has a life-limiting illness
  • Transitional Care – The Transitional Care Service supports young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting conditions

As well as referrals from professionals, the hospice take self-referrals, it was explained to us that this is not widely known. Anyone within the catchment area can be referred & the best way to refer somebody to The Shakespeare Hospice is by completing their online referral form.
