Celebrating International Women’s Day 2026
8th March 2026
International Women’s Day is a global recognition day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It honours women of the past, present, and future generations who have fought for change in gender equality and funding female-focused charities.
In 2026, IWD marks an extraordinary milestone: 115 years of collective action, advocacy, and progress toward gender equality.
The first official International Women’s Day was in 1975, when it was recognised by the United Nations (UN) but its origins began earlier, in 1908, when a women’s rights march in New York City saw 15,000 people advocating for better pay and voting rights. Clara Zetkin suggested the idea of an international holiday at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen in 1911
That call to action remains today and will remain until there is global gender parity and an equal seat at the table on all fronts.
However, even today, in many parts of the world women still live in fear and have fewer rights than imaginable.
Give To Gain
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #GiveToGain
Give to gain emphasises a powerful and supportive idea: when people, communities, and organizations invest in women, everyone benefits. Giving women access to quality education, healthcare, equal employment opportunities, and leadership roles results in long term social and economic gains.
The International Women’s Day official website reads:
“When we give, we gain.
Together, let’s help forge gender equality through abundant giving. The IWD 2026 Give To Gain Campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration.
Give To Gain emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase. Giving is not a subtraction, it’s intentional multiplication. When women thrive, we all rise.
Whether through donations, knowledge, resources, infrastructure, visibility, advocacy, education, training, mentoring, or time, contributing to women’s advancement helps create a more supportive and interconnected world.”
At BTTJ we are proud to have so many talented women working within our firm and we value the unique perspectives and experiences they bring to our team. We continue celebrating this on International Women’s Day and always.
