We have expanded our team of employment law experts to meet the growing needs of employers and employees coming through the doors for legal advice on workplace matters.

The firm’s investment comes at a time when the UK reported a 19 per cent increase in the number of individuals bringing new claims against their employers between April and June last year, when compared with the same period the year before.

The number of open cases over the same period also increased by 18 per cent like-for-like.

Demand is expected to further increase over the coming months as Labour introduces a raft of new measures designed to give more rights to employees.

To meet the anticipated demand for legal services Norman Rea and Betty Nunesova were both brought on board last month joining Kerry Hudson, Solicitor.

Norman is a Chartered Legal Executive who works with both employers and employees on all employment and HR matters including contentious and non-contentious work.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives he has extensive experience in his field and has previously represented clients from across the UK and Channel Islands.

Betty has joined the team as a Paralegal.

After gaining First Class Honours in her law degree at the University of Birmingham, Betty went on to complete her Masters at BPP University.

Alex Khan, Managing Partner said: “We are delighted to welcome Betty and Norman to the team. With an expanded team we will be able to offer employers and employees an even higher level of service throughout the region.

We are anticipating a continuing rise in demand for our employment law services and we are confident that each of our new team members will each play a vital role in meeting the needs of the growing number of clients seeking our legal expertise.”

If you require employment law advice or services, either as an employee or employer please get in touch with the team who will be happy to discuss your matter.

Exciting news at our Warwick office!!

We have now completed a major expansion, allowing us to better serve the increasing number of customers seeking our extensive range of legal services.

We have expanded into premises adjoining our existing Coten End offices, meaning our original office space in Warwick has now increased by a third, allowing our team to offer a multi-discipline service for more local businesses and residents in the area.

New facilities include a meeting room and full board meeting room with LED display screen. All rooms have been tastefully furnished in white and royal blue, to reflect the firm’s corporate branding and we have black and white photographs of Warwick landmarks adorning the walls.

We have also installed LED lighting throughout the offices to improve our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. There are improvements to the working environment in our offices upstairs and staff facilities such as the kitchen, as well as increased parking spaces.

Alex Khan, Partner and Property and Commercial Solicitor, based at our Warwick office says:

“Our expansion at Warwick is a strategic move on our part as we seek to further extend our presence among customers in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. It comes on the back of a similar investment in our Balsall Common office a year ago and is the result of the increasing number of customers walking through our doors for professional advice.”

Alongside Warwick, we also have offices located in Coventry, Balsall Common and Southam, covering the whole of the Coventry and Warwickshire area and beyond. Contact us for more information.

Often when a child is caught in between their parents’ acrimonious divorce or separation parental alienation may occur. This is when one parent deliberately turns a child against their ex-partner so that they eventually cut-off all contact with them and they state themselves that they do not want to have contact with the other parent. This is known as trying to turn a child into a child soldier in a battle, as described by the Chief Executive of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS).

It is clear that this should not be happening, but usually parental alienation has been dismissed as a common product of bitterness about a failed relationship. But it is actually more than that and it is an intentional form of parental psychological abuse and undermines Universal Declaration Of Human Rights. In Mexico and Brazil, it is even classed as a criminal offence, so it is good that CAFCASS are now starting to raise awareness about the emotional impact that parental alienation has on the child and they have started to make changes to ensure that parental alienation decreases.

These are complex cases which here at Brindleys we can deal with and unfortunately it is present in about 11%-15% of all UK divorces which makes up 10% of CAFCASS’ private law caseload. This affects around 6000 children a year, but the new strategy that CAFCASS have implemented will mean that the children can be taken away from the alienating parent and placed with the ‘target parent’ when social workers detect signs of manipulation and the focus will be on allowing the child to maintain a relationship with both parents. If the alienating parent fails to improve their behaviour, then contact with the child will be restricted and in serious cases, refused. CAFCASS have developed a 12 week programme called Positive Parenting to help the abusive parent put themselves in their child’s position and change their behaviour. Some cases involve psychologists and psychiatrists which are brought in to assist with this ground-breaking initiative.

It is clear that the Courts need to step up to these cases far more than they are doing. These are very complex issues as many parents genuinely believe that they are improving their child’s life by shutting out the other parent and in other cases, both parents feel as though they are victims of alienation, so it is good that things are moving forward, but if you feel that there is parental alienation in your family life, you need to make sure that you act fast. Give us a call and we will happily talk you through your options to ensure that this is dealt with in the best way for the children.
