David Whiting
Senior Litigation Solicitor
David joined BTTJ as Senior Litigation Solicitor in February 2025. He qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and started his career in a City of London firm. He qualified into the Commercial Litigation Department. In 1994, a national firm of solicitors acting for a famous night club owner asked David to join them after he was their opponent in a winding up petition, served upon the company owning that club.
David was one of four partners to open the successful Milton Keynes office of that national firm. Having enjoyed this extra-legal work David moved to one of the largest firms in Birmingham and the West Midlands as the Head of the Dispute Resolution department and the Marketing Partner. He headed the team which re-branded that firm and it moved into an innovative office in Stratford-upon Avon.
David rejoined some of the partners of the national firm who had formed a smaller firm with national and international clients in Banbury. David was one of the owners for four years but resigned after that because of illness in his family in 2019. In previous firms, David was a Recommended Solicitor in Dispute Resolution.
Some of David’s recent cases are:
- Acting for a company registered in Singapore defending a $650M claim and preparing an application to vary a Worldwide Freezing Order;
- Acting for a company seeking to purchase a Premier League football club; dealing with the fall out disputes for and against the company and a director, with a view to ensuring that he was a fit and proper person to be a director of the football club;
- Acting for an internationally renowned DJ and others, defending a passing off claim (in IPEC) relating to their production of an international music holiday/festival in Kavos, Greece and an existing production of an international music holiday/festival in Barcelona;
- Acting for a Chinese blogger posting articles on two Chinese social media platforms being accused of defaming a company providing services to foreign students.
David’s clients are a mix of successful companies and high net worth individuals. David endeavours to settle disputes, quickly and cost effectively, with the minimum of disruption to his clients’ businesses. If this strategy fails David is a tenacious litigator.
David spends 100% of his time working on Litigation matters.
