Partner, Head of Risk & Compliance

Susan joined BTTJ in September 2021 and became a partner at BTTJ in November 2024.  She provides advice and support to the staff and Partners of the firm on all things compliance and regulation related and deals with client complaints. Susan is based in our Coventry office and spends 100% of her time working on Risk and Compliance support alongside her role as a Partner of the firm.

Susan has been qualified as a solicitor for nearly 30 years, 27 of those years specialising in Risk and Compliance. She has held senior positions at several firms of small and medium sized, and has sat at board level for many years, influencing senior management to ensure their firms and staff operate with the highest level of regulatory compliance.

Notable successes

  • Whilst working at the Solicitors Regulation Authority, Susan carried out the largest multiple investigation into a firm in the North-East of England which resulted in regulatory action being taken, so she has had experience of “both sides of the fence”.  Susan has experience of working for a small firm, big firm and as a Consultant with Legal Eye providing risk and compliance advice, AML audits and complaint handling to different firms. She is also a qualified Family Mediator and a qualified Law Society LEXCEL advisor.

About Susan

I am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and have previously treated people with skin problems, for smoking cessation, weight loss and managing pain.  I am a qualified coach, qualified in CBT and neurolinguistic techniques – not many people know that!

I love crafts, in particular sewing and quilting, reading (crime, thrillers, and “chick lit”) and anything to do with animals.

I think colleagues would describe me as being approachable, good at active listening, fair in my approach.

Definitely a tea person – especially chai latte and definitely no longer an early bird, more a “middle of the day” kind of person!
