James Sawyer

James joined BTTJ in November 2025 as a Solicitor in our Litigation department, based out of our Coventry office.

James graduated with a 2:1 in Law from Nottingham Trent University in July 2021 before completing his Legal Practice Course & LL.M at the University of Law in August 2022.

He began his legal career as a paralegal in April 2022 before commencing his training contract the following year. James qualified as a Solicitor in April 2025, specialising in Civil Litigation. During his time as a trainee solicitor, James gained experience in both the Property and Wills and Probate departments. This provided him with a strong understanding of litigious property matters and contentious probate claims.

James has experience advising both private and commercial clients across a wide range of litigation matters, such as; TOLATA disputes, contentious probate claims, commercial property disputes, residential property / neighbour / boundary disputes, landlord and tenant matters, professional negligence claims and insolvency work. James also has experience in advising clients on employment settlement agreements. He spends 100% of his time working on Litigation matters.

He has represented clients in Court and has attended mediation both with and on behalf of his clients.

James understands the financial and emotional pressure of litigation. He seeks to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible, while working to obtain a practical and cost-effective outcome for his clients.

About James

Outside of work, I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter and visit Anfield when I can.

I play hockey for my local club, having played for Warwickshire when I was younger.

I also enjoys a round of golf when time (and my patience) allows!
